SBDC to host six-week management seminar
Business skills are ultimately more critical to a small business owner’s success than the service or product they are selling; yet for one reason or another, people in small businesses tend to spend very little time honing their management skills.
The Tyler Junior College Small Business Development Center has announced dates for its Fall 2012 Management Skills Certification Seminar. The six consecutive classes will meet 6-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, from Sept. 13 through Oct 18, in Room 134 of the RTDC building on the TJC West Campus, located at 1530 SSW Loop 323.
Cost to attend all six sessions is $99.
SBDC business trainer Robert Lewis said the six-week seminar offers valuable skills in legal matters, business planning, accounting and taxes, banking, advertising and strategic thinking for small businesses. Instructors for each of these classes are accomplished business professionals in their area of experience, and participants will have the opportunity to question the instructors about the business topics covered. This valuable advice would be costly if sought individually. This seminar has been designed for individuals who currently own a small business or individuals who are considering starting their own small business.
"Often business owners send their employees to this seminar to give them a better understanding of the business environment in which they are working," Lewis said. "The classes are considered as information-only classes with no outside reading assignments or tests given."
A notebook containing material presented by each instructor will be made available to each participant.
To register, call Tyler Junior College’s School of Continuing Studies at 903-510-2900. The course number is BUSG1011 CRN15137 and is titled "Management Skills Certification." For more information, please call Robert Lewis in the TJC Small Business Development Center at 903-510-2975.
