TJC Fire Academy graduation set Friday, April 13
The newly established Tyler Junior College Fire Academy will graduate its second class of cadets on Friday. The ceremony will be held 6 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Room 104 on the TJC West Campus. Graduates include: Justin Duke, Canton; Lucas Gipson, Chapel Hill; Jeremy Heddin, Canton; Cameron Lovette, Canton; Cody Park, Canton; and Garrett Rose, Canton. Class valedictorian is Justin Duke, and salutatorian is Jeremy Heddin. TJC Fire Academy graduates receive certification as Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations and qualify for national accreditation by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). Admission to the TJC Fire Academy is based upon a highly competitive process. Preference will be given to an applicant’s level of education, experience and their affiliation with a volunteer department or rescue unit. The academy is a non-credit continuing education program. Tyler Junior College will award 15 semester credit hours upon successful completion of the program and passing the state exam.
